UDS 2022 Changes
The following reflect areas where Relevant’s logic has been updated from 2021.
General changes
For Tables 3A, 4, and 6B Section A, age is now calculated as of the end of the reporting period, rather than the beginning.
Changes to Table 6A
Many code lists have been updated; for details see HRSA’s list of Table 6A code changes.
Changes to Table 6B Quality Measures
Childhood Immunization Status
- Patients who have a severe combined immunodeficiency or a history of intussusception are now considered compliant for the rotavirus vaccine. Note: new data elements have been introduced in Relevant to support these concepts; see “New Data Elements,” below, for details.
- Patients with a history of varicella zoster are now considered compliant for the Influenza, MMR, and VZV immunizations.
Cervical Cancer Screening
- Palliative care has been added as an exclusion.
Breast Cancer Screening
- Palliative care has been added as an exclusion.
- The advanced illness exclusion now requires one inpatient or two outpatient visits, or dementia medications in the year or prior year.
Weight Assessment and Counseling for Nutrition and Physical Activity for Children and Adolescents
- Self-reported weight values are excluded from the measure, per the supplementary guidance in HRSA’s “Telehealth Impact on 2022 Uniform Data System (UDS) Clinical Measure Reporting.” Note: The new self_reported columns must be mapped for this exclusion to have an impact.
Body Mass Index (BMI) Screening and Follow-Up Plan
- The measure description in Relevant has been updated to match the UDS specification.
- Self-reported BMI values are excluded from the measure, per the UDS manual and supplementary guidance in HRSA’s “Telehealth Impact on 2022 Uniform Data System (UDS) Clinical Measure Reporting.”
Tobacco Use: Screening and Cessation Intervention
- The measure description in Relevant has been updated to match the UDS specification.
Statin Therapy for the Prevention and Treatment of Cardiovascular Disease
- The Statin Therapy measure has changed the denominator criteria for the atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease (ASCVD) component from age 21 and older to all patients with ASCVD; for patients with low density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) ≥ 190 mg/dL, the age changed from 21 and older to 20 and older; and for patients with diabetes, the LDL-C level of 70–189 mg/dL criteria was removed.
- A denominator exception has been added for hospice care.
- The denominator exception of patients 40 through 75 years of age with diabetes whose most recent fasting or direct LDL-C laboratory test result was less than 70 mg/dL and who are not taking statin therapy was removed.
Colorectal Cancer Screening
- An exclusion has been added for past history of colorectal cancer.
- An exclusion has been added for palliative care.
- The advanced illness exclusion now requires one inpatient or two outpatient visits for advanced illness or dementia medications in the measurement year or the prior year.
Screening for Depression and Follow-Up Plan
- A denominator exclusion has been changed from anyone with an active diagnosis of depression or bipolar disorder to anyone ever diagnosed with depression or bipolar disorder.
Changes to Table 7B Quality Measures
Controlling High Blood Pressure
- The denominator criteria has been changed from a hypertension diagnosis during or prior to the measurement period to a hypertension diagnosis during or prior to the first six months of the measurement period.
- An exclusion has been added for palliative care.
- An exclusion has been added for patients aged 66 and older with frailty for any part of the measurement period who also meet the criteria for advanced illness (with one inpatient visit or two outpatient visits) or are taking dementia medications during the measurement period or the year prior to the measurement period.
Diabetes: Hemoglobin A1c Poor Control
- An exclusion has been added for palliative care.
- An exclusion has been added for patients aged 66 and older with frailty for any part of the measurement period who also meet the criteria for advanced illness (with one inpatient visit or two outpatient visits) or are taking dementia medications during the measurement period or the year prior to the measurement period.
Modified Data Elements
A new self_reported column has been added to Height Measurements, Weight Measurements, BMI Measurements, and BMI Percentile Measurements. These columns are used in calculating the Weight Assessment measure for children (Line 12) and the BMI Screening measure for adults (Line 13).
New Data Elements
Three new Data Elements have been added in Relevant to support the calculation of UDS 2022 quality measures. Where possible, these have been mapped automatically. If they are not mapped and you need assistance with the mapping, please contact support@relevant.healthcare.
- Intussusception Cases (for Childhood Immunization Status)
- Severe Combined Immunodeficiency Cases (for Childhood Immunization Status)
- Advanced Illness Outpatient Visits (for Breast Cancer Screening, Colorectal Cancer Screening, Controlling High Blood Pressure, and Diabetes: Hemoglobin A1c)
