Risk Factor-Based Risk Models
Risk factor-based Risk Models define risk scores using a set of weighted risk factors based on Populations. They are a good fit when:
- Patient risk can be expressed using Populations
- Interpretability and transparency are important for care teams

How risk factor-based models calculate risk
Each risk factor includes:
- Name: used to identify the factor across Relevant
- Qualifying population: the Population a patient must belong to for the factor to apply
- Weight: determines how much the factor contributes to the risk score (can be positive or negative)
A patient’s risk score is calculated as the sum of the weights for all risk factors whose qualifying Population the patient belongs to.
