eCW Cloud Sync Hosted by Relevant
For Health Centers using eCW cloud sync, eCW sends daily transaction logs which must be replayed against a database. Some Health Centers who use eCW cloud sync choose to have Relevant host their database and replay these logs. For clarity in this article, we will refer to this database as the “cloud sync hosted database”. Note: this database is separate from your Relevant Data Warehouse and is not accessible from the Relevant application.
Setup
After signing a service agreement with Relevant, your Health Center should complete the following steps:
- If you don’t already have a Data Dump Authorization Agreement with eCW, reach out to your eCW representative to put one in place. This process typically takes 2-3 weeks, so reach out as soon as you know you need a Data Dump.
- Send the static public IP address of the Relevant cloud sync hosted database server to eCW. Your Relevant lead will provide you with this IP address.
- Ask eCW to send the TDE Credentials along with a password to access them, and forward these to Relevant. These credentials will let us decrypt the transaction logs.
- Ask eCW to send a SAS URL for the Blob Container that contains the backup and transaction log files, and forward this URL to Relevant.
- Inform Relevant once eCW has uploaded the initial data dump to the Microsoft Azure Storage Bucket. We will then begin the process to load the initial database dump and apply the subsequent daily transaction files.
If eCW ever sends a new initial data dump, please inform your Relevant lead so we can remain synced up with the latest changes.
How log replay works
Every day, eCW uploads a zip file which contains many transaction logs. These transaction logs list every change that was made in eCW - every patient added, name changed, medication started, etc. Relevant looks at the current state of your data in our cloud sync hosted database and applies the changes listed in the transaction logs. This process is what brings your cloud sync hosted database up to date nightly.
Troubleshooting
If eCW sends a malformed file or fails to send data, Relevant will not be able to maintain your database up to date. Relevant will email you as soon as we notice the problem to request that you contact eCW to resolve the problem. You must contact eCW within 3 business days of the issue to request that they send the required files.
